Blueberries, you say? Yes, we do.

But blueberries are for breakfast aren’t they? Yes, mostly.

So you want us to put these into our burgers?! You betcha. We’ll go out on a limb and answer your next question by telling you that blueberries make a flavorful, health-packed addition to America’s favorite guilt food.

Blueberries are packed with Vitamin C, antioxidants, and are full of dietary fiber. This is an instant upgrade to your current burger recipe. But we’ll go a few steps further. Research suggests that fiber helps keep the body regular, the heart healthy, and cholesterol in check. With just a handful of blueberries, you can meet your daily fiber requirement while also fighting off free radicals with their potent antioxidant properties.

This recipe can not only keep you on track with your body comp goals but it can also convince your friends that you’re a sophisticated foodie with healthier leanings.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs 97% lean freshly ground beef or turkey
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ⅓ cup fresh diced sweet onion
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley
  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ¾ cup fresh blueberries

Directions

  1. Place ground meat into a large bowl and gently break it up. Add all ingredients, except blueberries. When incorporating the seasonings and almond milk, fold in gently with your fingers.
  2. Add the blueberries, being careful not to smash or break the berries.
  3. Divide the meat into 8 small burger patties about a ½-inch thick. Key: The less over handling, the juicier and more flavorful your burgers will be.
  4. Place the burgers on a hot charcoal grill. Avoid using the spatula to flatten and press the juices out to prevent dryness.
