The step-up is a multi-joint, single-sided strength movement for the lower body with an emphasis on the quads, hamstrings, and glutes. The exercise will also improve core strength and stability.


  1. 6120_A
    Stand tall behind a box. Put your hands on your hips and place one foot on the box.
  2. Step-Up
    Press your heel into the box and drive your hips toward the ceiling. Finish by stepping onto the box with your other leg. Then reverse the move to return to the starting position.

Trainer’s Tips

  • Press through your heel as you stand up on the box.
  • Keep your chest upright at all times. Don't round your upper back.
  • Squeeze your glutes as you stand up on the box.
