For those of us who are not nutritionists, the back of a food label can have a tendency to get a little confusing. Most of the times you check for simple things like fat, carbs, and protein, but get distracted by a laundry list of ingredients that you have to think twice about pronouncing, but what do you actully need to know?

Another study on food labeling out of the University of Illinois examined which livestock production claims mattered most to consumers. Here’s what topped the list:

  • No growth hormones
  • NonGMO
  • Humanely raised
  • No antibiotics
  • Free-range or cage-free
  • Grass-fed
  • Certified organic
